Postdoc Mathematical Physics

The Mathematical Physics group of Prof. Walcher at Heidelberg University invites applications for a postdoctoral position at the interface of geometry and theoretical physics with anticipated start in Fall 2019.

Applicants must have obtained a doctoral degree in physics or mathematics, and demonstrate an outstanding potential in a relevant research topic, such as supersymmetric and topological quantum field theory, string theory and supergravity, mirror symmetry and its ramifications, algebraic geometry, and relations with arithmetics. Both mathematicians with interests in theoretical physics, and physicists with a more mathematical profile will be considered.

To apply, submit a curriculum vitae, list of publications, statement of research interests, and arrange for at least three letters of recommendation to be uploaded via the Mathjobs website. Review of applications will begin on December 15, 2018.

The Institute for Applied Mathematics at the Faculty for Mathematics and Computer Science of Heidelberg University invites application for a Full Professorship (W3) in Applied Mathematics.

We are looking for researcher in “Applied Analysis” with special emphasis on Partial Differential Equations. Applicants should have an eminent research record and highly qualified in teaching. Experience in concrete applications is desired. An active participation in existing graduate schools and the Center for Scientific Computing (IWR) is expected. Further, adequate participation is expected in teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses within the study programs of the Faculty. The Professorship is intended for being filled with an internationally outstanding researcher, but young academics with strong qualifications can also be considered.

Prerequisites for application are a university degree and (in accordance with Article 47, paragraph 2 of the Higher Education Law of the State of Baden-Württemberg), a Habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or equivalent qualification.

The faculty intends to increase the number of women in teaching and research; women are therefore explicitly invited to apply. Handicapped persons with the same qualifications will be given preference.

Applications (hardcopy and electronic in one PDF-Document to: with the usual documents (curriculum vitae, description of scientific interests, list of publications (no reprints), record of teaching activities) should be submitted until 23rd November 2018 to: Dekan der Fakultät für Mathematik und Informatik, Universität Heidelberg, Im Neuenheimer Feld 205, D-69120 Heidelberg, Germany.

Postdoc Asymptotic Invariants and Limits of Groups and Spaces (PDF)

Within the DFG Research Training Group "Asymptotic Invariants and Limits of Groups and Spaces" (RTG 2229), funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and jointly run by Heidelberg University and the Karlsruhe Institut for Technology we invite applications for 2 Postdoc positions.

Appointments are for two years there might be the possibility of a one year extension Payment is according to the wage agreement of the civil service TV-L 100% of salary level E13.

The research focus of the Research Training group is the systematic study of geometric spaces with regard to their asymptotic invariants and their behavior under deformations, degenerations, and taking limits. It provides a structured framework for a cross-boundary PhD training in geometry.

Postdocs will benefit from a broad, inspiring mathematical environment, mentoring by the PIs and advanced and tailor-made courses on the topics of the RTG. An intensive visitor's program, frequent workshops and PhD schools will contribute to a vibrant scientific environment. In addition, we offer professional skills modules.

We seek candidates with the following profile: They have written an excellent PhD thesis in an RTG related area, and their research should have potential for further development. They should show broad mathematical interests and be able to bridge different research areas of the RTG.

Heidelberg University strives to achieve gender balance at all levels of employment. We therefore particularly encourage female candidates to apply for this position. With appropriate qualifications, applications from persons with handicaps will be treated with preference. For additional information see our webpage

Applications for positions starting at October 1st 2019 should be received by December 1st 2018; however, positions will remain open until suitable candidates have been identified. Applications should be submitted through Go to

Application Material:

  • Motivation Letter
  • CV
  • Research Statement
