The Institute for Mathematics in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Heidelberg University invites applications for a Junior Professorship for Arithmetic Geometry (W1, non tenure-track) to be filled July 1, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment is limited to a maximum duration of six years. Provided that the general legal (German civil service law) and budgetary regulations are fulfilled, it is intended that the employment will have temporary civil service status.
Position Description
We are seeking a mathematician with a strong and interesting research profile in Arithmetic Geometry, who will strengthen and complement the existing research focus in Arithmetic Geometry. Active participation in the CRC/TRR 326 “Geometry and Arithmetic of Uniformized Structures” is expected, involvement as PI in the second funding period starting in 2025 is envisaged. According to the applicable regulations for Juniorprofessors according to the Teaching Obligations Ordinance (Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung) of Baden-Württemberg, the obligated teaching load is four semester hours per week before, and six semester hours per week after, the evaluation. The regulations concerning evaluation can be accessed through the Human Resources Division of Heidelberg University.
Requirements
The professorship is a temporary qualification position. In accordance with Article 51 of the Higher Education Act (Landeshochschulgesetz) of the state Baden-Württemberg, candidates are expected to have a completed degree, an outstanding dissertation in mathematics, internationally recognized publications, and teaching experience. For applicants who have held academic positions before or after their doctorate, the duration of pre- and post-doctoral employment together should not exceed six years.
